Gwendolyn Brooks is one of those very rare writers that can at once focus on a specific theme while managing to include the vastness of a shared experience. That’s a trait that’s certainly evident in “We Real Cool.” Rather than trying to introduce it myself, I’m going to defer to the poet herself.
