The Gulden Draak is something of an anomaly for me as I don’t normally wade into the Belgian beer scene all that often. I tend to focus on the huge amount of American microbrews out there and have often overlooked a lot of what could be great beers. That being said, while I certainly regonize it as being a good beer, I wasn’t overly fond of Brouwerij Van Steenberge’s Gulden Draak.
Brouwerij Van Steenberge’s Gulden Draak Ale
Gulden Draak has a deep, rich nose with caramel and malt right up front. It even smells sweet and creamy.
The first taste certainly asserts those rich and creamy notes. It’s a sweet, light beer with a clean and refreshing finish. It’s not a bad beer, by any means, but lacks the bite that I really enjoy in a beer.
10/10 For a boat that’s also a dragon.
