I’ve gotten into a few Red Hare beers in the past (most notable with the excellent Sticky Stout) and I’m finding that this is fast becoming one of my favorite breweries. The fact that it’s local certainly doesn’t hurt. While the Sticky Stout is a seasonal, I wanted to take a look at one of the first three beers of theirs that I ever tried.
Red Hare’s Gangway IPA
As I’ve mentioned before, I’m in love with hops. I like the bite, the earthiness, and that hoppy aftertaste. Gangway hits all three of these really well. Right off the bat there is that earthy smell that we all know and love. Underlying is just a hint of citrus. It has a light smell.
First taste confirms that hoppy bite with a not-too-overwhelming fruit sweetness. It’s got a bit of the West Coast IPA vibe and is a very refreshing beer all told.
10/10 for nautical bunny themed beers
8/10 IPA grade (that’s, roughly, 3.5 hops for every five tastes)
8.5/10 Overall. Refreshing IPA.
