Way back during the 1940s, Little Five Points’ Variety Playhouse was a movie theater. At the present, it’s a great venue to catch some of the more awesome bands that come through Atlanta. (Side note – have y’all noticed that venues have a personality? Some are known as the punk places, or hip hop places, etc. Variety, to me at least, is the small to mid-level alt rock, folk, sometimes experimental venue).
The Variety’s exterior is a mix of art deco and purely industrial brick with a heaping of power lines crossing in front of it that make getting a shot of just the venue nearly impossible. In other words, it’s perfectly suited for Little Five Points.
